Sets 1-10

Ozzie Dots Sets 1-10 is designed to support the teaching and learning of 51 selected contractions, those identified from frequently-used wordlists, beginning with LIKE, CAN, IT, THE, GO. Ozzie Dots Sets 1-10 presents contractions sequentially with the idea that they will be introduced in the suggested order, building upon familiar contractions, without complicating the experience for the beginner with unfamiliar contractions.

For more information, please see Ozzie Dots Teacher Resource.

Ozzie Dots Sets 1-10 assumes knowledge of the braille alphabet, the capital indicator and the full stop. The books start very simply. The first book contains 25 words; the number of words, complexity of the language and content/concepts grow from there. Contractions include all the alphabetic wordsigns (e.g. BUT, CAN, DO); the strong wordsigns (AND, FOR, OF, THE, WITH); selected shortform words (e.g. AFTER, FRIEND, SAID); selected dot 5 words (e.g. DAY, NAME, SOME); and IN (standing alone). Eight or more books are available to introduce each contraction, though we have found that 2-3 books per contraction is generally sufficient.

The Sets 1-10 Title List presents an overview of the books available in this collection.

Select and download the braille materials (DXB) and supporting print documentation (PDF) from the collection below to create an individualised pathway towards braille literacy for your beginning touch reader, keeping in mind your student's tactile skills, literacy skills, age, residual vision, interests and engagement.

For each Set below, you’ll find a PDF with the text of the books for that contraction, introductory notes and braille information, followed by the DXB files for individual braille stories.
