What is a form field?
A form field allows you to input information into a website or a form. It is way to collect data which is then sent to the owner of the form.
Navigating by form fields
What letter could you press to navigate by form fields? It follows the same pattern as headings and buttons.
That’s right, it’s the letter f!

There are some different kinds of form fields below. You can use the letter f to navigate to just the form fields, or you can listen to the explanation of each form field before you get there using ctrl + down arrow. Don’t forget that shift + f can take you backwards through the form fields!
Text input
This is a text input field. Press space to start typing the answer. Press tab to leave the form field.
Dropdown menu
This is a dropdown menu which allows you to choose one option out of a selection of options. Press space to open the menu and arrow keys to navigate the menu. Press enter to make your choice
Check boxes
Check boxes allow you to choose more than one option in a list of options. Press f to move through the options and space to check an option.
Radio buttons
Radio buttons allow you to chose only one option in a list of options. Press f to move through the options and space to check an option.
Date
Dates ask you to fill in a date using a particular format. In Australia dates are written with the day, then the month, then the year. Sometimes this is represented with the letters d for day, m for month and y for year. Sometimes you can type in the date using numbers, or select the date from a calendar. Press space to open the calendar and arrow keys to move around the calendar.
