Eligibility Criteria
Visiting Teachers support students who are blind or have low vision
in all year levels from Prep to Year 12 within the Department of Education
and Training. Students in the Catholic Education Office schools are also
supported.
A student is eligible for support
from a Visiting Teacher if she/he has sufficiently low vision to be regarded
as partially sighted (i.e. distance vision with glasses, if needed, worse
than 6/18 and/or visual field reduction to less than 20 degrees) or is
legally blind. An assessment at the Educational Vision Assessment
Clinic based at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital determines eligibility
for Visiting Teacher support.
Support Services
