Eligibility Criteria
Visiting Teachers support students who are blind or have low vision in all year levels from Prep to Year 12 within the Department of Education and Training. Students in the Catholic Education Office schools are also supported.
A student is eligible for support from a Visiting Teacher if she/he has sufficiently low vision to be regarded as partially sighted (i.e. distance vision with glasses, if needed, worse than 6/18 and/or visual field reduction to less than 20 degrees) or is legally blind. An assessment at the Educational Vision Assessment Clinic based at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital determines eligibility for Visiting Teacher support.
