About the Educational Vision Assessment Clinic
The Educational Vision Clinic is based at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne and is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals which include an Ophthalmologist with paediatric expertise, an Education Officer and an Educational Psychologist.

Any student with a vision impairment attending a Department of Education or Catholic school in the state of Victoria who wishes to receive Visiting Teacher Service can be referred to the Educational Vision Assessment Clinic. The Educational Vision Assessment Clinic provides information about the nature and degree of the student's vision impairment and establishes eligibility for the Department of Education and the Catholic Education Office's Visiting Teacher Service.

Eligibility
A student is eligible for the Visiting Teacher Service if she/he has sufficiently low vision to be regarded as partially sighted (i.e. distance vision with glasses, if needed, worse than 6/18 and/or visual field reduction to less than 20 degrees) or is legally blind. If the student  meets this eligibility criteria an Education Officer from the Educational Vision Assessment Clinic will visit the student at school and conduct a functional vision assessment. This assessment will provide information about the student's functional vision in the school environment.

Support Services
As well as the Visiting Teacher Service, eligible students and their schools will also have access to the resources and services of the Statewide Vision Resource Centre. Parents and school staff will be able to access  professional advice and resources from the Statewide Vision Resource Centre. Students will have access to the Centre's collection of large print, audio and braille books. A Professional Development Program is offered by the Statewide Vision Resource Centre to parents, teachers, support staff, and the wider school community.
