A Department of Education facility, the Statewide Vision Resource Centre (SVRC) supports approximately 400 blind and vision impaired students enrolled in Government, Catholic and Independent schools in Victoria. The SVRC has a professional library and production department specialising in alternative format materials. Training for staff working with students with a vision impairment is also available from the SVRC.

The SVRC staff consists of teachers trained in the area of vision impairment and blindness, an educational psychologist and support staff with specialist knowledge in braille and other alternative format materials such as, e-text, audio, and large print.

A unique function of the SVRC is the Educational Vision Assessment Clinic which is run in conjunction with the Health Department at the Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. The clinic is responsible for determining eligibility for support from the Statewide Vision Resource Centre and Visiting Teachers. The clinic is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals which include an Ophthalmologist with paediatric expertise, an Education Officer and an Educational Psychologist.
