SVRC Professional Development Program for 2001
Please note: - as Monday
12 March is a public holiday – the dates for the Braille Day and the Mountbatten
User’s Discussion Group (morning) and O&M for Integration Aides and Parents
(afternoon) have been adjusted accordingly – see below.
- a program for
the VT Day is attached. Please fax in your reply. We have had a bit of trouble
in the past guessing who will be coming and have therefore over- or under-catered
for lunch on the day. A faxed reply will ensure that we are not out of pocket
for catering! The cost for the day is $25 which includes lunch and handouts.

Learning Media Assessment Kit
The promised Learning Media Assessment kit is
now available FOR DEET VISITING TEACHERS – it will set you back $20 but should
be a valuable resource! There are 13 reading activities including passages from
novels, reference material, maths activities, mapping, tables etc. It also includes
taped passages and the original of one of the novels. It will be available for
Visiting Teachers at the Visiting Teacher Professional Development Day on Monday
19 February. Please bring your $20 on the day. Tech Book – Available on the
VT PD Day
Visiting Teachers will receive their free copy of the 2001 edition
of ‘Technology and Equipment for Students with Vision Impairments’ at the Visiting
Teacher Professional Development Day on Monday 19 February. Everyone else can
send $12 to the SVRC to receive their copy. SD&I Funding – Equipment
Grant for 2001
Attached to the print copy of The Bulletin is a copy of the
Equipment Grant Application Form for the SD&I Program for 2001. Eligibility
for students with a ‘mild visual impairment’ is as follows:
Items of equipment
for students with a mild visual impairment who do not meet the eligibility of
the Program for Students with Disabilities and Impairments but for whom items
of specialised equipment items are essential.
The application will need to:
- Demonstrate that the item of equipment is essential to access the school’s
curriculum
- Be supported by a recommendation from the Visiting Teacher
indicating the student’s visual impairment and ability to use the equipment

Our students did extremely well last year as the following list will
indicate – please let us know of any results that are not included: -
Aaron – score of 50
- Anita – score of 37 for History Revolutions

Annette – score of 71.65
- Ben (Balwyn HS) – perfect score with 99.95 has
accepted his position at Melbourne University studying Science-Engineering on
a FULL SCHOLARSHIP!
- Dean – will be studying Business Advertising at Moorabbin
TAFE
- Felmore – score of 59.5 has been accepted into Melbourne University
to study Sciences
- Fotis – earned a score of 92.5 and will be studying
Information Technology at LaTrobe University
- Gerard – passed RE and achieved
a score of 42 for Woodwork
- Jimmy (Balwyn HS) – with a score of 84.95
will be studying Arts/Business (Marketing) at Monash University
- Joanne
– score of 80.5
- Jude – earned a C for his History Revolutions exam, which
is very commendable!
- Neslihan (Broadmeadows SC) – with a score of 80.8
will be studying Law/Commerce at Melbourne University
- Orhan – best mark
was 42 for Business Management and an overall score of 67.45
- Pia – score
of 90.5
Staff News
- Lillian Adler (Eastern Region)
will be off work this term due to ill health. Jenny Williams will increase her
time fraction for term 1.
- Tina Gaylard will be working as a Visiting
Teacher in the Swan Hill area (.8) and will be based at Swan Hill PS – glad we
have someone in the area again!
And Finally… WELCOME BACK!!!!!
The
year has begun as last year ended – full steam ahead! Good luck for the term and
